DMPS Bowlers Head to State Tournament

Bowlers from Hoover, Lincoln and North will be competing at the State High School Tournament on February 24-25.

Bowlers representing Hoover, Lincoln and North have qualified for next week’s State High School Co-Ed Bowling Tournament.

On the girls’ side, Lincoln is one of seven teams to qualify for the Class 3A title. The Rails’ Hanna Duver rolled the second best qualifying score in the state, and joins teammate Ilda Herrera as one of a dozen bowlers to also qualify individually. In Class 2A, North’s Paige Hennick had the top score in the state to qualify individually for a State title. It’s the fourth time in five years the Polar Bears are sending a bowler to State.

In the boys’ competition, Lincoln’s Chris Shriver is one of twelve bowlers who qualified individually in Class 3A. In Class 2A, Hoover is one seven teams seeking a State title; the Huskies’ Tanner Peeler had the top score at the qualifying event and is among the top twelve individual qualifiers.

The following are the qualifiers from DMPS:

GIRLS

Class 3A

  • Lincoln Rails – 2766
  • Hanna Duver, Lincoln – 441 (second highest qualifying score)
  • Ilda Herrera, Lincoln – 410

Class 2A

  • Paige Hennick, North – 441 (highest qualifying score)

BOYS

Class 3A

  • Chris Shriver, Lincoln – 467

Class 2A

  • Hoover Team – 1843
  • Tanner Peeler, Hoover – 454

DMPS schools will be competing in the state tournament next Tuesday, February 24 (Class 2A) and Wednesday, February 25 (Class 3A). The State tournament is at the Plaza Lanes, 2701 Douglas Avenue in Des Moines.

The tournament will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the Parade of Bowlers and the National Anthem. Actual competition will begin at approximately 10:20 a.m. Doors will open for spectators at 9:00 a.m.
