Kayaking in December!

Lewis Major from the DNR visited the aquatics classroom on Dec 11th.  He brought 8 kayaks that the students will be practicing with for the next week.  Lewis taught them all about safety, using a lifejacket and how to put it on correctly, how to enter and exit the kayak safely and how to safely stop and turn the kayak.  The students learned all about the Kayak and how to adjust it for themselves, how to use the paddle correctly and the different strokes used during kayaking.  The students then got to get in and try out kayaking in a controlled and warm environment.  Everyone had a great time and I heard a lot of laughing going on.  It was fun to see who could steer their kayak and who struggled.  – Lisa Klein, P.E.
