IHSMA All-State Music Festival Qualifiers

This past weekend (October 24th) two North High students were accepted into the IHSMA All State Music Festival!

• Patricia Lazo-Chavez (All State Orchestra, Violin), 11th grade
• Joshua Perez (All State Band, Alto Saxophone), 9th grade

The audition process this year was brutal. Students had to prepare and record an extremely challenging set of scales, excerpts, and solo material.  Both of our students came completely prepared to record their audition, and they beat out students from across the greater Des Moines Metro area to secure their spot.

Although the in-person festival has been canceled this year, Patricia and Joshua have earned a huge honor in being selected as a 2020 IHSMA All State Musicians.  If you see them or have a chance to reach out and congratulate them, please do so!

Two note-worthy facts:

• Students selected for the All State Music festival represent the top 1.7% of all high school musicians.
• North and Roosevelt were the only two DMPS schools to have students accepted.
