State Science Fair Results
North Science Bound students Saata Corneh and Genesis Trujillo-Lopez competed in the State Science and Technology Fair of Iowa, which culminated on Friday, March 26th with the virtual Grand Awards Ceremony.
Saata’s experiment was to determine which toothpaste would yield the most DNA from carrots. The idea was to determine an effective DNA extraction solution to yield the best results.
Genesis’ experiment was to determine if milk kefir could grow in low-lactose milk. Her research was designed to help those who are lactose intolerant to find the best alternative for making milk kefir.
Both Saata and Genesis competed virtually at the State Science and Technology Fair of Iowa by submitting a 7-10 minute video presentation of their experiment. They were then both chosen to precede to the 2nd round and present their research to the judges.
Genesis earned the Naval Science Award and came in 3rd place in the Microbiology category. Saata earned a 2nd place finish in the Cellular & Molecular Biology category.
